Kunzum La is the saddle between the Chandra valley and Spiti. If it is closed, there is no honest Kaza tour from Manali that week. If it is open, it is still a high, windy, unpaved-feeling day.
We do not publish Spiti dates in May because of this pass. July on the calendar is the honest window, not a preference for school holidays.
