Rohtang is the saddle people still name when they mean “leave Manali for the high country.” The Atal Tunnel now carries through-traffic toward Lahaul. The old pass remains a ride when it is open, and a queue when it is not.
We treat Rohtang as part of a Manali riding day or as the doorway to Lahaul, not as a four-hour tourist crawl you must win. Permits and closures change. The briefing the morning you ride is the one that counts.
A Rohtang motorcycle ride with Hardev Motors uses the same Himalayan fleet as the longer tours. You do not need a different bike for one pass.
Weather sits on the pass even when Manali is mild. Layers, lights, and a willingness to turn around are part of the kit.
If your real destination is Leh or Spiti, the tunnel is how the itinerary keeps a schedule. Rohtang can still be a scenic day if the road is clear and the group is not racing a flight.
Summer and early autumn for the old pass. The tunnel has a longer season. Winter ice is not a photo opportunity.

The through-route uses the Atal Tunnel. Rohtang is added when it is open and the day can take it. We do not block a Leh itinerary on a closed scenic road.
